RetinaVue Vision Screenings For Diabetics

RetinaVue Vision Screenings For Diabetics

RetinaVue Screenings -One of the most valuable screenings available for diabetic patients is now available at EPIC

Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among working-age adults because it often goes undetected. With early detection and treatment, as much as 95 percent of vision loss cases can be prevented.

RetinaVue is the latest equipment developed that uses an electronic method to digitally capture, save and transmit retina images for screening. In addition to identifying, classifying and documenting all levels of Diabetic Retinopathy from very mild to vision threatening, this equipment has also been able to diagnose an assortment of systemic diseases including papilledema, hypertension, macular degeneration (AMD), cancer and strokes.

All patients with diabetes should have this screening annually, even if they’ve had a visit with their eye doctor.

Diabetes is an epidemic; there are 44 million people living with diabetes in North America today, and by 2040 there will be 60 million. Although Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the most preventable causes of blindness among adults, there is still a large percentage of patients with diabetes not being screened for Diabetic Retinopathy.

RetinaVue has the potential to change lives by helping to identify Diabetic Retinopathy in patients who had not previously been screened for the disease, leveraging the potential to save the sight of thousands, if not millions, of people with diabetes.

If you have diabetes and have not had this screening you should get it scheduled today 248-336-4000.

You should not practice being an ophthalmologist. We only get 2 eyes and I do not want you doing my cataract surgery!!!!

      Hi Janice,

Thank you for the feedback. We provide the test in our office, our staff is trained and we have the equipment, but an ophthalmologist reviews the results and diagnosis any concerns or issues. This is just another screening that we offer, and most insurances cover, for the better health and convenience for our patients. It saves patients the time of an additional trip to the ophthalmologist (unless there are concerns then a follow up visit with an ophthalmologist is required) and helps us to be sure that our diabetic patients are in the best possible health condition that they can be.
