Sleep Apnea

1 in 5 adults have mild symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, while 1 in 15 have moderate-to-severe symptoms in the US. Schedule Your Appointment

Do you wake up and feel like you did not get enough sleep even when you sleep for over 6 hours?  Do you feel sluggish and have low energy through the day?  Do you fall asleep while watching TV, reading, driving, or feel like you always need to take a nap?  Has anyone ever said that you snore loudly, or you gasp when you are sleeping?  Are you a restless sleeper and move all over the bed?   These are all signs of sleep apnea.  Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing or drop your oxygen level when you sleep causing your brain and body to suffer from this low oxygen state.

If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to potentially serious health complications, such as heart disease, lung disease, depression, and even death.

Risk factors for sleep apnea include supine (flat on back) sleeping, obesity, frequent  sinus infections or congestion, large neck size, recent weight gain, menopause, smoking, and family history of sleep apnea.

According to a report by medical news today, about 18 million Americans are living with this condition, but only 20% have been diagnosed and treated.

The most common symptom of sleep apnea is snoring. One more common symptom of sleep apnea is daytime sleepiness due to interrupted sleep at night.

Sleep apnea is a chronic disease and it should be treated with immediate care.
